Katamari, Tekken, Soulcalibur and Naruto!
What else do you need?

Namco Bandai Games America Inc. officially made us smile today. The company that was once two companies has finally announced a new Katamari game exclusively for the PS3.
“Katamari Forever is the pinnacle of the Katamari series,” beamed Todd Thorson, director of marketing and public relations for NAMCO BANDAI Games. “Players will be amazed as they fall into its universe of addictive gameplay, infectious music, off-beat humor and brand new changeable graphical styles.” Yeah, we know Katamari is addictive. But what's new? Wait, did he just say “brand new changeable graphical styles”?! Sounds interesting to say the least. But before we (and you) get too excited let us give you some confirmed facts:
- The game will run in 1080p(!).
- You'll listen to “remixed classic Katamari Damacy tunes”.
- The dashing prince and his cousins will encounter a brand new storyline.
- The game will offer “multiple new visual effects“.
- The King of All Cosmos will drive you nuts (in a good way.).
It's not just a new Katamari game that excites us, no, it's also that Tekken 6 will be hitting PSPs alongside its console versions.
Namco Bandai promised many goodies for the PSP version of Tekken 6 including additional stages, items, and an ad-hoc multiplayer mode. Plus you'll again be able to toy around with the “Ghost” Infrastructure mode, allowing players to upload their own “ghost” character data and download the very same from the rest of the world. Network support is also confirmed.
Namco Banday also announced a new Soulcalibur title called Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny. The popular fighting game franchise's handheld debut promises quite a few bells and whistles of its own with a confirmed number of 20 unique characters, an expanded character creation mode and a number of different game modes that, aside from the fact that there will be a single player campaign, we have not received any information about. What we know is that, just like in Tekken, you'll be able to beat up your friends via the PSP's ad-hoc function.
“This latest installment to the Soulcalibur universe continues the franchise’s tradition of delivering quality entertainment with addictive gameplay and stunning visuals,” raved Todd Thorson, director of marketing and public relations, NAMCO BANDAI Games America. “Each iteration consistently offers a top notch fighting experience everyone expects from the acclaimed series and SOULCALIBUR: Broken Destiny for the PSP system is no exception.”
Sounds like PSP gamers can look forward to some fantastic beat-em-up titles by the end of the year (We assume that's when both titles will be hitting stores. Details as we get them.).
Last but not least a new Naruto game (yawn...) has been made official. Titled Naruto Shippuden: Legends: Akatsuki Rising, the game will allow players to take part in Naruto's „largest adventure to date“. Ah, yeah. Sounds like a standard PR line doesn't it? Being prejudiced usually isn't our style (at least so we like to think) but after having played so many “not so great” Naruto games lately we are skeptical.
“NARUTO Shippuden: Legends: Akatsuki Rising brings Naruto’s most exciting adventure yet to the palm of your hands,” promised Todd Thorson, director of marketing and public relations for NAMCO BANDAI Games America. “The game’s epic story, multiple modes and streamlined controls make for an excellent introduction into the world of NARUTO Shippuden.”
We are always open to great surprises so we'll keep our fingers crossed for all the trillions of Naruto fans out there.
Ok, that's all the announcements for Sony consoles from Namco Bandai today. Check back soon for more individual information on these mostly juicy sounding titles.
