[Gamers' Day 2007] I Gotta Believe!

Believe it, PaRappa the Rapper is coming to PSP, and he's even getting some bonuses to boot.

Though it's probably long lost in the many moves and shuffles the TPS offices have made over the years, we once had a pretty swanky ass PaRappa alarm clock that actually required that you press the little froggy emblem on his beanie at the proper time to turn it off or you would get the little doggy's trademark "I Gotta Believe!" after the looping opening theme. It wasn't really the best alarm clock (no snooze), but it did rock.

A lot of us here look back on that clock with the same kind of misty-eyed nostalgia as the original PaRappa the Rapper itself. The game all but force fed the rhythm action genre to American gamers as part of Sony's quirky Japanese game invasion with the original PS one, and to have seen it running again, in our hands, in widescreen, with all of the charm and lo-fi visuals, it just made us smile. Also, we totally kicked ass on the first two levels.

Finally satisfied that we'd seen enough, we got the spiel on what would be included in the PSP version (remember, Sony says no ports unless they have 30% new content, though we wonder if that actually holds true for Sony too). In essence, it's the PS one game in widescreen (though you can play it in the original ratio if you like), but it'll also include some light Infrastructure bits that allow custom remixes of all of the original six tracks (free of charge) and a four-player Ad-Hoc Wi-Fi battle mode.

...Well crap, now we have to find that alarm clock...
