Split/Second Blows Barriers Porting to PSP
Power Play Portability!

Split/Second (and it's distant cousin Blur) burst onto the scene just a few short weeks ago, but neither one was able to find a solid audience. Just because you didn't play it doesn't mean it wasn't worth playing though, as it brought some new ideas to the arcade racer genre. Combining some of the best elements of the Burnout series with some cool destructible and changing environments, Split/Second offered adrenaline filled fun without the nuances of an advanced simulation.
Well, apparently Disney Interactive was able to keep the wraps on an previously unannounced follow up project, and today they revealed that Split/Second would be making an appearance on the somewhat beleaguered PSP this holiday season. Split/Second for the PSP system will include unique handling and controls designed specifically for the portable device (if only it had an accelerometer!). The game will feature an exclusive new track and challenges not found on the current versions. In addition, the game also includes four-player local multiplayer.
"Split/Second has become a hit with fans of racing and action games, and is the perfect fit for the PSP system," said Craig Relyea, senior vice president of global marketing, Disney Interactive Studios. "The explosive track altering features and fast arcade racing will have PSP system players worldwide playing it on-the-go or at home."
Having spent some time with the PS3 version, I can see the appeal of the quick action on a portable system. Burnout Legends was a perfect fit for the PSP, but it has been almost 5 years since that came out, and the PSP is due for a quality bit of fun racing destruction. Color us intrigued!
