There's no denying it – the PlayStation Portable is facing some tough competition. The Nintendo DS is one of the best-selling systems in the world, and now Apple is poised to secure a significant chunk of the mobile gaming market with its iPhone, iTouch, and iPad products. Sony "attempted" to step up its game with the release of the PSP Go, but now the 'fifty-bucks-more-and-you-can-have-a-PS3' device is often regarded as a joke. Luckily, there may be some hope on the horizon.
With huge titles including Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, and God of War: Ghost of Sparta on the way, there will be no shortage of excellent products in the near future. However, Sony has also realized that consumers need to have affordable access to the system's older titles as well. In a brilliant move, Sony has implemented a number of new initiatives that make owning or purchasing a PSP system much more enjoyable.
Yesterday, a new PSP Favorites software line made its debut. Titles within this group are all priced at $9.99. We know what you're thinking; most of these games will be mediocre at best, with a few true gems appearing here and there, right? The answer is an astounding no. Though the list is currently short, it already contains some of the highest rated games the PSP has to offer. Check them out!
• Ape Escape: On the Loose
• Buzz! Master Quiz
• Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee
• LocoRoco 2
• Patapon 2
• Pixel Junk Monsters Deluxe
• SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo
• Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow
• Twisted Metal: Head On
Several more, including Silent Hill: Origins, Sims 2, and Manhunt 2 will also be included in the PSP Favorites line.
As I stated above, the PSP Go isn't really going anywhere. Now, Sony has a remedy for that issue as well. Consumers who purchase a new PSP Go system between now and March 31, 2011 will receive a voucher for three titles: LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, and SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3. It's no price drop, but it is something.
Lastly, Sony has chosen to expand upon its Greatest Hits library. Four titles have been added to the lineup: Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance: Retribution, and Secret Agent Clank. These games will all retail at $19.99
