[E3 2009] PSP Video Service Launches
What better way to fill up that memory card than with a ton of flicks 'n TV shows?

File this one under "wait, they didn't already have that?" Yes, we're a little clueless, but for once we're happy to have been in the dark about this one. Up until now, the PSP's own PlayStation Store (which launched all proper-like as a native app back in October of last year) lacked the sexy little Video tab that had gone live on the PS3 back during E3 of last year. If one wanted to load any videos on the PSP for some portable enjoyment, there were two options: either use the clunky and rather annoying PC interface, then hook up a PSP via USB, or use that same USB cable to transfer content bought on a PS3 to a registered PSP.
Neither of the methods was all that cumbersome, really, but it was an extra step that could put off potential buyers just looking to grab stuff. Given that the PSP has supported downloading games, wallpapers, themes, and the like directly to the system with the in-XMB Store, it was really only a matter of time before the "complete" Store interface finally made its way over. Now, as of today, you can fire up the slightly redesigned PSP PlayStation Store and git to downloading directly to your system.
It marks the continued evolution of the platform as a truly cross-system interface for sharing things. Just as your PSN ID is now shared between the two, the Store's download list (in either Game or Video flavors) can now be used interchangeably, which is a nice touch. It also means you can output all that video content to a TV (provided you have the cables to do so) so you don't need a PS3 to actually enjoy it on a big screen, which is a nice touch. The service has already launched, so if you want a crack at the recently confirmed ~1900 movies and 9400 TV shows, just fire up your PSP, make sure you've got some cash in your account, and git to downloadin'. Go on, git!
