MX vs. ATV vs. Your Wallet
Just how strong is your will when Rainbow Studios meets the PSP?
Published: February 28, 2006
It has begun. The Great 2006 Flood of Oh God Please Get This Out Before the Fiscal Quarter Ends Titles is upon us. Luckily, when publishers delay stuff past the holidays, it's not always because the game wasn't done yet. Sometimes, it doesn't have the marketing budget to get a TV commercial that screams at you every commercial break on MTV. Sometimes, it's because a publisher needs to ship a couple titles before the end of their fiscal calendar so they don't look like from January to March they were all having NERF fights and playing Extreme Frisbee.
And sometimes it's because the game just needs to hit at this time of year, when PSP owners are balled up on the floor weeping because they spent $250 on something that doesn't have any freakin' new games. Well blow your nose and stand tall, chief, there's hope. One of those games that pined for a late February release date is finally here: MX vs. ATV: On the Edge.
"Bringing the MX franchise to the PSP system with all-new game play features will provide a unique off-road experience for handheld gamers and capitalize on the systems growing installed base, allowing fans to play the leading off-road racing game anytime, anywhere," screamed THQ's senior global brand manager, Dave Miller. "The overwhelming success of all the MX titles to date has established our Rainbow Studios as the industry's premiere off-road developer."
You totally already knew this, but On the Edge -- besides having a name that makes it clear this game doesn't take no shit from nobody -- is actually a full port of MX vs. ATV Unleashed. Again, we know you know, we were just telling that other guy. This means (other guy) that you'll get to tool around in new ATVs, 4x4 golf karts, a totally overhauled monster struck, enjoy new levels, a PSP-exclusive Outdoor Freestyle Mode that's like a sandbox, and four-player wireless (ad hoc) multiplayer.
If you're smart, you've locked your wallet away in a safe where nobody -- even you -- can guess the combination. Ours is digital for extra security, and we won't tell anyone that the code is 1-2-3-4. Suckers.
