Off-Road On PSP
Itching for more off-roading action now that Blazin' Trails has come and gone? THQ's gotcha covered.

THQ's acquisition of Rainbow Studios wasn't some kind of knee-jerk, must-buy, gimmie-gimmie kind of buyout; the publisher clearly saw talent in the Pheonix-based development house, and rightly so. After becoming synonymous with motorcycle racing for creating the incredibly addictive Motocross Madness games for Microsoft, the team went on to tackle Sea-Doo racing (Splashdown is still one of our favorite games to this day) and ATV racing (crafting the first two ATV Offroad Fury games for Sony before THQ finally snapped them up.
The void left by their absence has never really been filled, despite Sony's attempt to continue the ATV franchise on the PS2 and, more recently at launch on the PSP. Meanwhile, THQ has enjoyed a handful of successful releases from Rainbow that merged the ATV and Motocross worlds, and finally realizing the PSP was in dire need of some love, decided to bring the very same MX vs. ATV gameplay to the beefy handheld.
Thus begat MX vs. ATV Unleashed: On the Edge, a full-blown port of the console games, offering new tracks, new vehicles and new challenges and new mini-games. Not one to let Sony's standing as the only online ATV game available for the PSP go unchallenged, MX vs. ATV will offer four-player online WiFi play. The developers will also go back to their PC roots and bring the experience there, complete with a track editor, should you be wondering what these guys are talking about here.
"Rainbow Studios is taking their mastery of the off-road genre to new heights, redefining the genre they built for Windows PC and bringing the duel between four wheels and two to the PSP system for the first time," barked Dave Miller, THQ's Senior Global Brand Manager. "Gamers can now build their personalized vision of the ultimate off-road environment on their Windows PC, take it online and race against all challengers."
"We're looking forward to bringing the Unleashed experience to the handheld market as well as returning to our off-road development roots on the PC," added Rainbow President Scott Novis. "Both titles will possess the unmatched game-play elements that define a Rainbow Studios title and provide exciting new content at the same time."
We'll have the first screens and more info as soon as we can get them to you. Keep your eyes peeled.
