Majesco's recent exit from the console publishing biz (or at least a scale-back to budget-priced stuff) apparently doesn't mean they're skimping on handheld releases. Case in point: Guilty Gear Judgment, a port of the last bastion of kick-ass 2D fighting games. Arc System Works' fighting games are some of the most beautifully animated and wonderfully varied fighters on the market -- no small feat considering the Street Fighter and Final Fight competition, though some may have written those games off long ago.

"Widely praised as one of the leading 2D brawler franchises, the Guilty Gear series has a long history of offering gamers deep, character-driven game play," lavishes Majesco marketing VP Ken Gold. "These exciting new installments will provide hours of entertainment while offering two unique new game play experiences that fans can enjoy on the go."

He's talking of course about GGJ and Guilty Gear Dust Strikers, the DS title that's hitting at the same time. Both games are hitting with extra content, the DS version with the requisite touch screen functionality (in mini-game form), but it's the PSP, with its extra storage space, that's getting the more meaty extras treatment.

In addition to the usual fighting game hotness, Guilty Gear Judgment will sport a complete 2D side-scrolling add-on. It's this combo of the Xbox's Guilty Gear X2 #Reload plus the new 18-level extra mode (complete with classic GG moves) that has us most excited. Both the main mode and the extra content are playable wirelessly too, as if you didn't have enough reason to pick up the game.

We'll have plenty more info leading up to the game's release in early spring, so check back soon for the numminess.
