Field Commander Ships Out

And we are soooo all over this game.

The PSP is finally starting to come into its own. It took over a year for some of the bigger, badder titles to arrive, but we're finally starting to get a taste of this whole go-anywhere console experience that was talked up before the system hit. Not that we're taking away anything from the games that hit at launch, mind you; we still bust out Lumines from time to time, and WipEout Pure seems to be eternally stuck in someone's PSP around here.

But that's just racing and puzzle games. More recently we got a kick ass third-person shooter, a massive action platformer, a killer pure action game and even a great card battle action... thingie. There are still some holes to fill in; we haven't seen a really great console-level RPG yet, and we haven't been privy to a good pure strategy game.

Well, scratch that last one off the list; Sony Online Entertainment has finally shipped Field Commander, and we're all doing the happy dance here. Why? Well, aside from the fact that it's freakin' awesome, we're just happy to check one more genre off the list of games that are PSP-worthy. Oh, and we like that the game -- marketing gimmick or no -- is getting sent off to some folks overseas.

"We are looking forward to launching Field Commander, as we were keen to develop a turn-based strategy game for the PSP system," outlines Laura Naviaux, SOE's senior brand manager. "This highly anticipated game will not only fill a gap in the current games available for the PSP system, it will lead the way in its genre with its variety of multiplayer and online options, including a robust website with leader boards, map sharing and tons of features."

You can get the full poo on the game by reading some of our news stories on it (just scroll down a little) or just cut right to the chase and dig on the full review. And now, we go to decimate our enemies.
