Crisis of Conscience
Is Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII awesome because of nostalgia, or awesome because it's just good? Either way, it's plain awesome.

On the one hand, I can see why they did it. There's an entire part of the game that depends on the mechanic, and there is an element of "ohcrapohcrapohcrap, is it going to hit on all 7s?" That it's constantly spinning and doling out things like removing the cost of Action Points (AP is used for special attacks like the aforementioned Jump) or even making you invincible for a short time is fun. Even summons are handled via the "Digital Mind Wave" slots, and while random is good to a point, it can also end up triggering a summon to just hit one enemy. It also completely eliminates the fun of grinding, though I will admit that I don't think I ever really had an issue with difficulty in the battles, so maybe it was meant as sort of a dynamic difficulty adjustment. Either way, it will be polarizing for some, especially since it makes leveling up Materia a chore.
