The Art of Zendoku

Eidos blends Sudoku with... a puzzle game?

The whole Sudoku craze is out of control. One needs only look at the fact that Sony is planning on launching a version of the game in freakin' hi-def as one of the premier downloadable games for the PlayStation 3 to see that it's not just a passing craze (or at least if it is, they're getting in while the getting's good. This mentality no doubt fueled some part of the approvals process for Eidos in deciding to publish Zendoku a frankly bizarre -- but not unwelcome -- take on the now famous brain teasers.

“We’re excited about working with Zoonami and bringing ZENDOKU to the handheld gaming audience. ZENDOKU brings a new and fresh perspective to the enormously popular Sudoku puzzle craze,” said Matt Gorman, Director of Marketing, Eidos Interactive.

“ZENDOKU’s focus is fun and innovation,” said Martin Hollis, CEO, Zoonami. “We’ve turned a familiar paper and pencil game into a puzzling, battling, micro-gaming, fighting extravaganza.”

Yeah, that's right, fighting. The game seeks to blend elements of puzzle combat, fighting and mini-games (screw that micro-game stuff) into something that shows heavy influences of what Eidos is calling a "Far Eastern backdrop with a light-hearted martial arts theme." And yet, at the core will be an unlimited number of Sudoku permutations, allowing those that just want a portable fix of the game to play all they want... forever... ever... er... r.....

And really, that's all we know right now. We'll be sure to update you once we have a little more info (like, say, screenshots). Check back soon.
