The World Poker Tour, now making stops on PSP.
Published: April 18, 2006
Cross-platform online play is the next big step in multiplayer gaming. Square Enix managed to do it incredibly well with Final Fantasy XI, linking both PC and PS2 gamers together, and then expanded it to Xbox 360 players too, all interacting with each other seamlessly, and most without a clue as to what platform the other players are gaming on. As the next-gen systems are released, we'll see an even closer link between the PC and consoles, not just in terms of visuals, but in games that work together regardless of the system.
Ah, but what about the current stuff? And what about the beloved PSP, which was supposed to help bridge the gap between portable and home console systems? Yeah, that's actually coming along quite nicely too. Case in point: World Poker Tour which accomplishes the amazing task of allowing you to play poker online, with people from either PSP or PS2 systems. Swanky, no?
“World Poker Tour pioneered televised poker, creating unprecedented interest in the card game and a true cultural phenomenon,” opines Visual Concepts president Greg Thomas. “Now available on the PSP system, World Poker Tour delivers a wealth of awesome features, including prominent poker venues, comprehensive player customization, unparalleled A.I. logic, as well as unique online play. It is by far the most complete poker game for the PSP system.”
The PSP version rocks the same real-life characters, adds in exclusive events and wardrobe upgrades, and, yes, lets you play online with other people regardless of their Sony-branded system. Oh, and it just happens to be available right now for $30. We'll make sure we let you know how things have turned out and if they're improved at all over the console experience as soon as we can deliver a final verdict.
