2K Sports is Ready to Deal

Portable poker. That’s right, we said it.
Author: Kyle Sutton
Published: April 10, 2006
The waves of what turned out to be pokermania have subsided for the time being, but for 2K Sports, this is ideal season to give portable gamers a taste of the card-dealin’ frenzy. While World Poker Tour for the consoles was swept onto shelves towards the latter half of 2005 (budget priced, but still not worth every buck), developer Coresoft secretly toiled away at a PSP version of the game that only now has reared its pint-sized head and screamed, “Hey! I’ve gone gold! I’ll be shipped off to retail by the millions in a matter of weeks!” Or at least that’s what we thought we heard, but a heavily sauced TPS staff may not be the most discernable.

What we do know (and we have the press release to back us up) is that World Poker Tour will be cramming in a cast of poker’s finest -- and if we may namedrop -- with the likes of Antonio “the Magician” Esfandiari, Erick Lindgren, Evelyn Ng, Lyle Berman, Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi and Phil “Unabomber” Laak are among the elite. Not a fan of the professionals? Fine, Picky McPicksters, go ‘head and make your own friggin’ player and deck ‘em out as you please!

We can’t help but be intimidated by the glairing numbers, too. 1,200 different AI characters to challenge! 4,000 custom variations of poker! Online play connec—wait a second, that doesn’t have zeros! Ah, what the heck, you’ll be taking on thousands of PSP- and PS2-owning players nationwide anywho, not to mention those tens of thousands of real friends of yours who’re just waiting to throw down wirelessly. Right, Mr. Popular?

Ok, so we don’t know your actual names, but we’re quite certain you’ll be among the nameless masses, with their $30 in hand, rushing off to pick up their portable copy of World Poker Tour come April 18. You see? You’re unique, just like everyone else.
