Wild ARMs XF Headed Stateside

Oh XSEED, why must you be so good to us Wild ARMs fans?

Some days we're just happy to know there's someone out there that loves us. Apparently today that someone is in fact the whole of XSEED Games' staff, because they just dropped the news that Wild ARMs XF (that's Crossfire for those of you not down) is coming to the US next Spring. Happy dance time! Happy dance time! Happy dance ti--whaaaa? You don't know what Wild ARMs XF is?

Wait, neither do we.

Luckily XSEED is here to help fill us all in. Rather than being a traditional 3D experience a la Wild ARMs 5 (which is awesome, by the way, go buy it), XF is instead a 2D affair, though it does borrow the hex-based battles from WA5 (and by extension the equally awesome Wild ARMs 4), as well as a deep 20+ strong job system and "a wide range of mission objectives."

Crossfire's storyline and characters are all new, though of course the game still takes place in a dusty, barren Wild West-inspired Filgaia. Once again, the planet is slowly dying, ravaged by an ancient, long-forgotten cataclysm and ongoing militaristic strife that is pitting neighboring kingdoms against one another. All, that is, save for one: Elesius. All is not well in Elesius, however, as their king has been rendered all but powerless as he lays stricken with a mysterious disease, the heir to the throne having disappeared and a senate with growing power is starting to shift the tide.

When Clarissa Arwin and her half-bro/escort Felius track Rupert Dandridge, the man who killed Clarissa's mother, to Elesius, however, their quest for revenge quickly takes on a new scope and meaning as they're swept up in the political turmoil that has seized the kingdom.

Through 60+ stages, the hex- and square grid-based battles can play out in a variety of ways thanks to Combination and Formation Arts, the wide range of jobs, and a deep item creation system that stretches from weapons to armor to spells cobbled together from materials scattered around Filgaia. The American release of the game also packs an exclusive 20 track Music Library unlocked the second you boot up the game.

Words can only explain so much, so we encourage you to take a peek at the new screens we just snatched, and as soon as we get a chance to go hands-on with the game, we'll make sure to give you impressions. So now is it happy dance time? Oh yes, yes it is.
