Follow the Warrior’s Code
Untold Legends is getting a sequel, hooray!

The Champions series has been a cash cow for Sony Online for a while now, so it wasn’t surprising to see that they were working on a PSP version of the franchise – or at least that’s what most thought it was. The end result, Untold Legends wasn’t quite the condensed version of the Champions games that most were hoping for, and we whined all about it in our review.
Fear not, hack ‘n’ slash fans, as the sequel to Untold Legends, The Warrior’s Code, looks like it’ll be far more of a console-quality experience – if for no other reason than a host of improvements SOE is promising in an announcement they made today. In addition to the usual increases in game length and locales that you’d expect, the graphics and fighting engines have been completely overhauled.
“The look and play of The Warrior’s Code has been designed, upgraded and completely enhanced for its debut as a sequel, making this a must-have for action-RPG fans and new PSP system owners,” claims Rob Hill, producer on The Warrior’s Code. “Players will be challenged by the intense combat and rapid hack-n-slash action.”
“Given the success and broad appeal of the original game, The Warrior’s Code will build upon this heritage as we strive to deliver games that appeal to both our core audience as well as new fans of the action-RPG genre,” boasted SOE Sr. Brand Manager Chris Sturr. “To date, Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade is a run-away hit and third best-selling PSP system game ever.*
The story this time around focuses on a shape-shifting race that seems to be slowly and systematically eliminated by a merciless warlord terrorizing the land. With their kind on the verge of extinction, some of the shape-shifters head into the wilds to escape and stumble across a secret that may yet allow them to survive.
The aforementioned upgrades to the visuals and combat system (including more moves, special abilities and something Sony’s calling “dynamic attacks of opportunity”) will come in handy, since you’ll be playing one of these shape-shifters, and it’s a safe bet a fair amount of button tapping will be required. Also included will be more enemies (40+ in all), more boss battles (12 of ‘em), and more environments (45+ places to button mash through).
Best of all, the game will be playable online via co-op or with PvP duels. The co-op segments will apparently work seamlessly with the offline single-player experience, and it sounds like the included lobby and matchmaking systems SOE’s working on will be promising as well. We’ll have more info as soon as we get it.
