The Incredibles Return
...For a video games sequel, anyway.
Published: February 2, 2005
Given that The Incredibles the movie was one of the best movies of last year (if not the best given who you ask around here), it's not a massive surprise that The Incredibles the games have done rather well -- to the tune of 2.5+ million units shipped thus far -- even if we didn't really take too well to the conversion. But hey, the march of commercialism presses on, and if it made money, it's almost certain there'll be a follow up.
So, gaspitty-gasp-gasp, imagine that: THQ has decided to pump out another sequel, helmed by the same dev teams that worked on the original console and handheld editions (Heavy Iron Studios and Helixe, respectively, for those keeping track). Perhaps a slightly bigger surprise (or not, if you're as equally fiscally-minded as THQ) is that a PSP version is also in the works, developed by Pacific Coast Power & Light.
Looking for more info? Too bad, we don't have any, but we do have the next best thing! No, not screenshots. No, not movies, either. Jeez, you really are picky aren't you? How about some quotes from people that make more money in a year than we'll see in 10? No? Too bad! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
"Our ability to work with Disney and Pixar in creating this all new videogame based on the extremely popular Incredibles property demonstrates the depth of THQ's relationship with the talented teams at Disney and Pixar," boasted THQ Worldwide Studios' Executive VP Jack Sorensen. "This next installment in the videogame series will give millions of fans worldwide the opportunity to interact with Mr. Incredible and many other beloved Incredibles characters in a brand new adventure this fall."
"The first game based on The Incredibles truly represented the high action vision Director Brad Bird had for the film," Pixar Animation Studios' John Walker mused, and he's producer of The Incredibles, so he probably has a pretty good idea. "This new game will encompass all the thrills and intensity of the first while taking players and our favorite superheroes to an entirely new dimension of The Incredibles world."
"After the amazing success of The Incredibles film and videogames, we look forward to BVG, Pixar and THQ joining forces once again to bring fans another chapter in this action-packed franchise," Graham Hopper, Buena Vista Games' Senior Vice President and General Manager, added with what some would imagine as a grin.
All three of them then high-fived each other and screamed "cha-chinnnng!" Or, at least that's what we heard. We'll have more real facts and info in a wee bit.
