“Fans of The Fast & the Furious franchise will be engaged in non-stop drift racing action from start to finish as the location of game play has no limitations with the portable system,” Makoto Iwai, EVP and COO of Namco Bandai Games, exclaimed. “With the same amazing graphics of the PlayStation 2 system version coupled with the added bonuses and features, The Fast & the Furious for the PSP system is the must have portable racing game for 2007.”

Oh will they, Mr. Iwai, will they really? Let's just see what kind of "new features" they're talking about, shall we? The PSP version of the game is still based on the slightly painful blight on the otherwise awesome directorial track record of Justin Lim, but we're going to let that slide on account of the fact that there's now a Swap Meet where PSP owners can trade rides via Wi-Fi, the need for oil changes during the normal game races, a new Road Sweeper mini-game for up to four players where racers "tag" corners with drift moves, and unlockable images of FatF cars and real-world rides.

Okay, so maybe that's not so bad after all. The fact that it sounds like Namco wanted to preserve the look and feel of the PS2 game isn't really a bad thing to be honest (we actually kinda dug it), but it remains to be seen how well the mechanics will transfer to the PSP's notoriously finicky analog nub.

And hey, the game is shipping to stores today, which means that as of tomorrow you should be seeing copies behind those fancy glass cases at your nearest game store, should you feel the need to rush out and pick up the game without checking out our review. But who would do a fool thing like that? Nope, not you, that's for sure.
