A Promising Announcement
2005’s Riviera: The Promised Land makes the jump from GBA to PSP.
Published: February 20, 2007
The apocalypse is no pretty sight. Most especially if you’re talking about an all-out showdown between the divine and demonic. Thousands of years ago, the war known as Ragnarok fated the world with just that, as Asgard, the realm of the gods, and Utgard, home of the demons, battled it out to the bitter end. Fast forward to present day, and now the floating isle of Riviera has shown grim indications of the demons’ return. What’s worse, with the gods no longer around to put up a fight, the return of Ragnarok would mean a sure-fire end to Asgard. To prevent what would be a certain doom, the proxies of the gods have chosen to actuate The Retribution, sending forth two Grim Angels, Ein and Ledah, to see through their plan and with it, the destruction of Riviera…
Sound familiar? Handheld regulars might know this role-playing gem from when it hit the Game Boy Advance in 2005. For the rest of us, you’ll soon come to know the name, as Atlus has announced its plans to bring Riviera: The Promised Land to the PSP. Better yet, to North America!
And now we-—what, no company quote? Aw heck, I guess we’ll just have to pad this story with a bulletin of in-game features instead. Except even sharper hand-drawn, high-resolution graphics, all-new event scenes, an arranged CD-quality soundtrack, dialogue with full voiceovers in dual languages, and as an added bonus, a brand new dungeon with an exclusive episode. Gotta love those port-tastic special features.
Riviera: The Promised Land has its day o’ destruction set sometime in June 2007. Be sure to hit up the game's Japanese site for at least a visual taste of what's to come. Once those U.S. assets come our way, though, we'll be sure to pass 'em along.
