Chalk this up as one of the least surprising news developments so far for the PSP: Namco has decided to make Ridge Racer (now sans "s") a launch title for the U.S. release of the uberportable.
For those that haven't been following the series' transition to the PSP, Namco's flagship racer is about as close as one could get to Ridge Racer V in portable form. Of course, it's not a carbon copy. Namco added in eight-way wireless multiplayer and a nitro system that allows for some short boosts of speed.
“Sony is once again pushing the envelope in interactive entertainment, and Namco is thrilled to be a part of the next evolution in handheld gaming,” gushed Nobuhiro Kasahara, Namco Hometek's President and CEO. “Ridge Racer will allow gamers to experience the capabilities of this new platform to the fullest.”
To get a better idea of how the game looks, take a look at the smorgasbord of new media we just added, straight from the big N (well, the other big N anyway).
