THQ Stirs Up Ratatouille License
And the THQ/Disney/Pixar relationship continues...
Published: November 6, 2006
It's only taken seven movies -- and some would say it happened after just the first or second -- but Pixar Animation Studios, the animation house now one and for all absorbed into the Disney collective, has become a licensing powerhouse. Granted, making a movie about toys was probably the best way to have an instantly marketable cross-sell, but there have been plenty of movies made since by the studio that have turned into merch, not the least of which are video games.
For the past few years now, it's been THQ that is linked hand-in-hand with the Disney.Pixar properties, publishing games based on The Incredibles and Cars, and that relationship continues into their third partnership for the upcoming Ratatouille, set to hit in Summer of next year. The tale of Remy, a rat with taste buds leaning decidedly away from refuse and living in Paris, the food capital of the world, the game will mirror the basic plot of the movie and is being developed by THQ's Heavy Iron Studios.
"Disney.Pixar films have consistently captivated audiences of all ages with their imaginative and memorable characters, visually stunning animation, and unparalleled story-telling," carefully detailed Kelly Flock, THQ's EVP of worldwide publishing. "THQ has shipped more than 25 million units of Disney.Pixar video games to date, illustrating the success of our long-standing relationship and dedication to the Disney.Pixar business."
Though we're not quite sure of the construct yet, the best concepts of Remy striving to become a chef, making food and avoiding capture and/or death at the hands of, well, everyone who sees him will all play a part. Given that the game is slated for all three Sony systems (not to mention every single other one out there), it's a given that we'll be hearing a little more as we get closer to next Summer. As soon as we do, you'll know about it.
