Codemasters' Race Driver has gone through plenty of name revisions. We've seen TOCA Race Driver, Pro Race Driver and now, finally the TOCO and Pro-free [game=]Race Driver 2006[/i]. Regardless of the name, the games have always offered a rock-solid physics model, a ton of cars on-screen at the same time and a damage model that makes the cars look like they're made of paper mache (that's a good thing when it comes to accidents).

Now, finally the game is inching its way to the PSP, but the port is more than just a straight conversion of the PS2 big brother. Race Driver 2006 is packing an unheard of amount of detail into the portable version; 21 cars on screen at once, 12 car Wi-Fi multiplayer (that's Ad-Hoc only, folks), 4 player local games with a single UMD thanks to game sharing, seemingly every race type in existence (including the new TransWorld Cup), 60 tracks to race those types on, and a list of dream cars you have to... well, just look at this list:

Aston Martin DB5, DB7, DB9, V12 Vanquish
Ford 150 Lightning, 1934 Coupe, 1968 Mustang, 9000, GT 40, GT 90

To celebrate, we've kicked up a trailer of the game running on the PSP. Head on over to [pspmedia=135]the RD2006 media page[/pspmedia] and have a look, won't you? The game has officially gone gold and hits in less than a week (May 30th for those that must know). We'll have a review right around then to let you know how it turned out.
