College Football! Raaaaaargh! RAAARGH!
Copious amounts of beer and home team support went into the making of this news story.

We mentioned it before in our NHL 2K7 story earlier today, but sports games do get a bad rap for not appearing to update themselves too much from year to year. Unless, that is, it's a transition year, when the development teams for sports games knuckle down and start digging into the new hardware to deliver something new for NCAA Football followers. In the case of PlayStation fans, that's getting a PSP version of the game, but the overall game has shifted a bit to showcase the power of momentum in a game. Plus there's a little something called Campus Legend that you might like.
Campus Legend is more or less what you'd hope for in a college football sim: your chance to be the BMOC. Think of it as a career mode, but with the promise of more booze and hot girls -- okay, we just filled that stuff in ourselves, but you know that's what happens when you're the start athlete for the school team. Your actions on the field are technically the focus, meaning the way you play during games is charted and, if you do well enough, reflected in permanent honors like a Hall of Fame induction. And the girls will totally want you.
In addition to an updated momentum system for helping win over the crowd and redirecting the flow of the game, EA's exclusive license with ESPN is finally being seen in a more obvious capacity. Now, ESPN The Magazine will actually chronicle your team's exploits, tracking statistical trends and and dynasty stats and reporting them with the kind of flair and involvement that The Magazine (it's so important even the is capitalized). We were going to make a joke about a free football phone, but that would date us even more than the thing about getting chicks in the paragraph above.
The PSP version includes the coveted Infrastructure multiplayer option that everyone begs PSP games to have, and not only lets you challenge buddies all over the country, but actively tracks all the stats so you can spend hours and hours pouring over how well that rushing game went. Both the new PSP version and the revamped PS2 version are available now, and we'll have a full review by our resident sports nut, the Matt Finney, in a few days.
