Monster House in the House

A movie-based game from THQ? Why, that’s absurd!

Whether you knew it or not, Columbia Pictures is hard at work on a feature film by the name of Monster House, with executive producers Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg at the helm. Better yet (and we’re being optimistic here), THQ has just snatched the videogame rights for the project, with console and select handheld versions slated to hit next summer in conjunction with the film. How exciting!

"THQ is excited to work with Sony Pictures Entertainment, one of the premiere movie studios in Los Angeles, to bring Monster House to the interactive world," grinned Germaine Gioia, vice president, licensing, THQ. "We look forward to creating a fun and humorous game that will enable the moviegoers to extend their experience beyond the movie theater."

Monster House sets the stage for what could very well be the battle of the century: a trio of determined kids against a seemingly haunted house that happens to devour every single treat-or-treater it comes across on Halloween. The flick is rounded out by an impressive cast, including Steve Buscemi, Nick Cannon, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Kevin James, Jason Lee, Catherine O'Hara, Kathleen Turner and Fred Willard, and is set to put some pretty groundbreaking Performance Capture Animation technology to use.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with THQ to bring Monster House into the hands of videogame audiences throughout the world," admitted Mark Caplan, executive director, interactive, Sony Consumer Products. "With THQ's long history of quality adaptations of major motion pictures we are confident that the video game will allow fans of Monster House to relive the action-adventure and graphical richness of the film itself."

The videogame rendition of Monster House is said to feature three playable characters, putting them on an movie-inspired adventures through the rooms of the dreaded house.

Both the film and videogames will be taking over theatres and game stores alike in summer 2006. We’ll be sure to bring you the developing details.
