Rollin' Up Gold

There's a katamari with your name on it, and it's barreling towards stores in the very near future!

Now we've been wondering why the Prince is rocking those awesomely stylish shades in half of these new screens, but we think it's finally set in: that katamari is bright, man. No, wait, even better, it's gold, baby, and Namco Bandai (yes, we're still waiting for that one to roll off the tongue) will agree, as they proclaimed today that Me and My Katamari is ready to roll into manufactoring.

“Whether you have minutes or hours to play, Me and My Katamari is the kind of game PSP system owners have been waiting for,” states Yoshi Niki, Product Group Director at Namco Bandai Games America Inc. “From the bright, colorful graphics to the addictive gameplay, long-time fans and newcomers to the Katamari series will quickly understand why this franchise has won over the hearts of so many gamers around the world.”

See if you can follow along on the concept here: it's Katamari... and it's portable. Yeah, that's pretty much it. Oh sure, there are plenty of geeky new extras like improved customization options, a handful of new cousins joining the family, four-player Ad Hoc wireless play, all crammed into an island-style interface, but fans of the series should find the concept of it all quite familiar. Uh, roll. Everything.

Oh, so it's a motive you want? Try this one on for size then: the King and his pint-sized family has taken a "royal vacation" (remember, we are dealing with royalty here) to a tropical island, only to find out the resident animals are without shelter. Being the selfless gents they are, the Prince and co. undertake the task of creating new Katamari islands for the local wildlife. The King, however, will likely be quite content lounging around and issuing bewildering tasks.

Me and My Katamari will soon become You and Your Katamari (humor is totally our bag) later this month. Now, on to the screenage!
