Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Seeks VIPs
And all it takes is buying the game. What a deal!

It's become essential for publishers to whip up a web site of some kind for upcoming games. Not only does it help them consolidate any released media for consumers, but it's often a simple way to rake in a ton of data on visitors by making them register to get access to certain sections of the site or particular content.
That would be the idea behind Activision's web presence for Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, though they're doing more than most with a V.I.P. section that encourages pre-orders to get access to the more interesting content on the site. In fact, the only way to become a V.I.P. is to pre-order the game or be friends with someone who already did, since they can grant access to other people. Inside, you'll find a screensaver that updates as more characters are revealed, exclusive wallpapers, contests, developer info and so on. It's not a bad way to drum up sales, though we're still looking for someone who's pre-ordered.
For those not willing to go that route, there's still the option of using the Team Builder feature to make a custom wallpaper. See, you can pick and choose a set of four superheroes, pick from pre-selected backgrounds, plug in some text, and then let the server generate a wallpaper based on the criteria you've selected. Just as in the case of the V.I.P. section, as more characters are revealed, more team options will be made available for new wallpapers.
So the choice is yours: do you take the plunge now and re-order (or hunt down a friend that's already done so), or do you stick to the publically available stuff? Either way, you can check them out by clicking here for the V.I.P. section or click here for the regular site, and as always, be sure to tell them TotalPlayStation sent you.
