Rockin’ Around the Bases

Hey, you too would go with a cheesy headline if you knew The Pixies, Nirvana, and The Stooges were going to be featured on the MLB 2K7 soundtrack.

Sports games have over the years become more and more synonymous with their eclectic soundtracks, not only in their collection of some of rock and rap’s finest (an overt generalization, we know), but also as a generous mainstream boost to indie acts who are just looking to get their name out there.

This year in particular, baseball fans are in for a treat, as 2K Sports has prepped an alternative rock all-star line-up for its latest slugger, Major League Baseball 2K7. In an impressive showdown, with cutting-edge acts like Wolfmother and The Walkmen joining the likes of legends like Nirvana, The Pixies, The Stooges and Sublime, with “Summertime” making its first-ever appearance in a videogame. Also on tap are indie rockers Tapes ‘n Tapes off of XL Records, who will be headlining 2K Sports’ Hit-n-Run Tour, which will be underway April 16 to promote MLB 2K7.

"Producing this soundtrack was like making a mix tape for a friend, especially considering the profile of the artists and the quality of the songs," recaps Tim Rosa, 2K Sports Director of Brand and Lifestyle Marketing. "We always seek to provide the sports gaming community with a soundtrack that makes sense for the game they are playing, while also showcasing great artists above and below the fringe. We achieved that goal with Major League Baseball 2K7, so I'm really proud of this one."
