MLB 2K6 Sticks to the Sticks

New pitching, batting and commentary should make this the best MLB game yet.

“The development team has worked extremely hard on creating unique and exciting features to appeal to every fan of the game,” begins Major League Baseball 2K6 developer Visual Concepts president Greg Thomas. “All these new features – the innovations in the batting system, the new pitching mechanics, Artificial Intelligence tendencies driven by Inside Edge, the new Pure Motion Physics movement system and so much more – combine together seamlessly to create an authentic and thrilling MLB video game.”

The head of 2K Sports' bread and butter development studio may be a little ™ and ®-heavy in his comments, but he's right; Visual Concepts and Kush Games are pouring an awful lot into their next baseball offering. We've covered most of it in the past, filling you in on the AI and Inside Edge, the inclusion of the World Baseball Classic, and so on, but there a couple more bullet points that someone at 2K Sports wants you to read, and who are we to stop 'em?

-Swing Stick- Using the design and functionality of other top-selling 2K6 games, the Swing Stick mechanic brings a new level of intuitive control, allowing players to use the Right Analog Stick to control the swing of the bat. Timing, guessing the location of the pitch and swing choice are key to successful execution.

-Payoff Pitching- Introducing a new philosophy to pitching in Major League Baseball video games, pitchers must spot their pitches correctly, taking into account pitch type and break as they throw to a target area.

-Catcher Mechanics- For the first time in any Major League Baseball video game, catchers can call the game, giving gamers playing as pitchers an idea of where and what to pitch.

-All-Star Commentary- The most entertaining Big League commentary returns to Major League Baseball 2K6 as veteran announcer Jon Miller delivers all the play-by-plays and Hall of Fame Legend Joe Morgan calls the on-field action. Additionally, Jeanne Zelasko and Steve Physioc join the team, previewing the team matchups during the season and provide analysis during the playoffs.

See? Lots of new stuff kicking around there, and it's a safe bet we'll be hearing about them in their various ™ and ®-labeled multitudes all the way up to the game's release on the PS2 and PSP in a few weeks. Should we find any more opportunities to shamelessly cut and paste information in here with witty little asides, we'll certainly make sure you see 'em.
