The classic puzzle game celebrates its 15th anniversary with a PSP debut.

Lemmings has seen just about every side of the game world imaginable since its 1991 debut. Not only has it been hailed as arguably one of the most platform-ported games of all time, but its was the work of DMA Design – yes, that DMA Design, the future fathers of the Grand Theft Auto franchise now better known as Rockstar North.
Simply put, this series has been around, transcending consoles, portables and computers in almost every form. You’d think everyone’s favorite green-haired race would be wandering onto, say, a certain next-gen portable sometime soon, wouldn’t you?
We tell ya, you guys are a regular batch of fortunetellers, as Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced Lemmings is indeed making its way to the PSP, in a game affectionately called… Lemmings.
"Lemmings delivers a very unique and addictive style of puzzle gameplay that players of all ages can enjoy," offered Susan Nourai, director, online and product marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "As the franchise turns 15 this year, we are happy to see the enduring appeal it has for fans around the world and are thrilled that today's generation will be able to experience the excitement of Lemmings on PSP."
Developed by Team 17 (whose latest Worms title is out this week, by golly), the game will have you bashing, digging, building, climbing, mining, and bombing through over 150 trap-laden levels, with violent rivers, steep cliffs, lava pits, mechanical spikes, and flame-throwing turrets coming a dime a dozen. As has always been the case, players must guide the luckless creatures through the maze-like stages from a start to finish. Certain levels may involve a race against the clock, completing a level with all Lemmings intact, or even in some cases, sacrificing an unfortunate few for the good of the whole. Of course, you were probably the kid who got a kick out of just blindly leading them off a cliff. Freak.
Thrown into the mix are 20+ PSP-exclusive puzzles, custom level creation (and the ability to share them wirelessly) , as well as a fresh coat of vibrant graphics and music to top it off.
As much as we’d love to end on the note of a hazy release date, SCEA had to go spoil the fun by confirming a May 23 launch. And they even left us with first screens of the game. How bout that?
