If there are any of you looking to get into the business of selling games take note. Putting a game out on as many platforms as possible -- especially next-gen stuff where the costs are stupid high -- is one of the best ways to break even. Need proof? Okay, Smart Guy, chew on this little truth nugget: LEGO Star Wars II, which is available in both PS2 and PSP flavors as well as GameCube, DS, GBA, Xbox 360, Xbox and PC versions, has moved a whopping 1.1 million units in a week.

Spread across eight platforms, those are probably the kind of numbers that someone like EA is used to seeing when their throngs of Madden zombies crash the gates to pick up new copies of the perennial football sim, but for any other publisher, they're very, very good indeed -- particularly considering there hasn't been a Star Wars movie in the box office in almost a year. Maybe there's something to be said for having a lot of charm, eh?

“There’s definitely something for everyone in LEGO Star Wars II, and the sales and reviews so far are proving it,” boasted LucasArts president Jim Ward. “This is the type of fun, accessible game everyone in the family can enjoy. It appeals to so much more than just the traditional gaming audience.”

So there you have it. Universal appeal meets quirky fun all wrapped up in a package that appeals to just about anyone. And that friends, is how a game sells a million-plus copies in a week. Well, that and having the game hit every platform at the same time, can't forget that. Congrats to the LEGO/TT Games/LucasArts folks, they deserve it.
