Liberation is Here

Portable Helghast killin' is finally in a store near you.

The PlayStation Portable has played host to more than a few ports in its time, and almost universally the game have suffered compared to their console big brothers. When Sony opted to have their Killzone franchise make the leap to the PSP, developer Guerilla Software was smart enough to avoid the pitfalls of others that tried to make a first-person shooter work, and instead went with something different: a top-down shooter.

As we discovered a few months ago while playing the game, the move was a wise one. Using a simple cover-based system and lots of laser sights, the game works just as well in frantic multi-player maps as it does in single-player stuff. This, of course, is what Sony was hoping for all along. And now, finally, the game has shipped to stores and should be on shelves as early as tomorrow (today if you're really lucky).

"Following up on the PlayStation 2 Greatest Hit, we expect the growing Killzone franchise to perform well on the PSP system," proudly proclaimed SCEA director of online and product marketing Susan Nourai. "With its new and exclusive features, including a third-person perspective and multiplayer wi-fi functions, we expect Killzone: Liberation to deliver the flexibility that PSP fans are expecting while appealing to a wide range of gamers, including those familiar with the franchise and those new to the title."

Sure, it's typically reserved commentary from Sony, but as the lovely Ms. Nourai mentioned, the game does sport some Wi-Fi hotness, and for those that were invested in the storyline of the original shooter, Liberation picks up right where that game left off. Well? What are you waiting for, man, you've got Helghast to pop!
