Wow! Kao!

Just when you thought we were running short on marsupial protagonists.

"Kao the Kangaroo is an accessible, fun, pick-up-and-play title that will appeal to gamers both young and old," said Emily Anadu, marketing manager, Atari, Inc. "For just under twenty dollars, Kao the Kangaroo provides hours of fun, humor and great entertainment at a price that is easy on the wallet."

And as much as we're dying to make relentless spin-off references, Emily makes a valid point. Cheap, playable, and generally aimed at a younger crowd, Kao the Kangaroo Round 2 and its PSP counterpart, Kao Challengers, make it plain and simple: the kids can’t get enough of marsupial protagonists. Oh, and hey, both games are out today.

The furry frontman of the hour, if you haven’t guessed, is Kao, a gutsy kangaroo straight out of Australia who’s out to save his fellow animals from a nasty ol’ hunter and his gang of no-goods. Both versions feature plenty of platforming, fighting and racing elements to go around, taking players across 21 “vividly rendered” levels spanning five worlds, with Challenges offering a multiplayer mode and an additional four levels.

Kao the Kangaroo Round 2 and Kao Challengers carry a family-friendly “E” rating, and a consumer-friendly $19.95 price tag. See? Everyone’s happy! Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!
