Ka-KAO!

It’s the fightin’ kangaroo straight outta Australia we speak of, and he’s heading to both Sony platforms.

If you thought the heydays of marsupial platforming heroes were a thing of a past, we might just have to conclude that you are dead wrong… in the kindest way possible, of course. We speak such blasphemy thanks to Atari, who will be giving a kangaroo from Down Under the good ol’ multiconsole treatment. The console-based Kao the Kangaroo 2, an action platformer that saw its debut on all the wrong consoles, and Kao Challengers for the PSP will both be getting their hop on in March.

“For consumers looking for accessible, fun, pick-up-and-play games, Kao the Kangaroo fulfils [sic] that need,” guarantees Emily Anadu, brand manager, Atari, Inc. “With colorful graphics, a lovable main character, witty humor and addictive gameplay, Kao the Kangaroo is sure to leap into the minds of gamers.”

When the Australian wildlife is threatened by a spiteful hunter and his pack of henchmen, Kao the Kangaroo, with trusty boomerang in hand, must arise to the challenge. Single-player is rife with 30+ sorts of enemies to take on, 21 lush levels across five worlds, plenty of action, fighting and racing portion to spice things up.

As for the portable treatment, Kao Challengers rocks the multiplayer mode, in addition to a bonus world consisting of four new levels, through which players will have to thwart an evil-doing witch and co. in her resident swampland.

So when might you be gettin’ your bounce on, you ask? March 2006, we say! And for a bargain-worthy $19.99, no less. Check back for first screens of the game later this week.
