THQ Sips Up Juice Games

THQ makes its first European purchase with acquisition of the proud parents of Juiced. Three cheers for global expansion!

For a developer whose debut title, Juiced, nearly went defunct following its publisher's fallout and consequent delays, Juice Games must be awfully relieved to finally be standing on stature ground. Those sighs of relief come after THQ's announcement today that it has scooped up the UK-based team, marking its first purchase of a European-based developer.

"This acquisition highlights THQ's strategy to work with the very brightest development talent from around the world," remarked Dan Kelly, senior vice president of business development, THQ Inc. "The Juiced franchise has shipped over one and a half million units so far, a tribute to the talent and passion of the award-winning team at Juice Games. We look forward to the studio bringing more ground-breaking games to the Juiced franchise as well as developing new intellectual properties."

The deal has THQ picking up the entire share capital of Juice Games, and bumps the team's managing director, Colin Bell, over to the position of general manager.

"The decision to partner with THQ reflects the great relationship we have established over the past two years," grinned Bell. "Joining THQ marks an exciting step forward for us and will enable us to do what we do best -- develop cutting edge, innovative games."

Assuming innovation comes in the form of high-octane street racing games, Juice Games is certainly on the brink of it. Their portable offering, Juiced: Eliminator, streets this summer. Keep it here for updates.
