A Juicy Prospect

THQ and Juice Games are taking their racer to the PSP.

For a project that was once the crown jewel in the now-defunct Acclaim 2004 lineup, the resuscitation that THQ has given Juice Games’ racer Juiced has apparently taken on a whole new second wind. While some may have balked at the respect system and light tuning aspects, we actually got rather into it, and the idea of it coming to the PSP, well that’s just downright sexy.

That is what we’re talking about, though; Juiced: Eliminator will be the proper title, and if it can replicate the big-screen racing that the PS2 version offered while adding in some wireless multiplayer, 8 new characters, 9 new cars with 100 more mods, 2 new locales bringing with them 8 new tracks, a deeper and more involved single-player career mode as promised, it could the first real must-have street racing game.

The difference in title refers to the main game mode addition: Eliminator races. Mirroring the approach Burnout 3 took where the last-place car is removed from the race every lap until only one remains is a wise choice. Eliminator races towards the end are incredibly tense.

"From the moment the rubber hit the concrete, Juiced has experienced tremendous global success, racing to the top of sales charts worldwide and providing a strong foundation for what will become a successful franchise," oozed Kelly Flock, THQ's Exec VP of Worldwide Publishing. "With Juiced: Eliminator and the portability of the PSP, those sitting on the metro, on a train or at their desk, can pursue innovative new game-play modes, pink-slip and crew racing, delivering a red-line adrenaline rush strong enough to replace the morning coffee."

"From the beginning, our goal with ]Juiced: Eliminator was to design the game from the ground up, creating the next evolution in the Juiced racing experience," added Juice Games' Colin Bell, Managing Director. "While the game will be immediately recognizable to all Juiced fans, we're very excited to bring a new dimension to the brand by tailoring to the inherent capabilities of the PSP."

We'll keep you updated as soon as we can get a little hands-on time and steal away a few screenshots to see how the progression of the series is going. Check back soon.
