'Tis the Season to be Infected

Now here's an interesting concept. Majesco has announced its latest PlayStation Portable launch title to be Infected, a run-and-gun type shooter that features the multiplayer concept of allowing players to invade their friends' PSP system by emerging victorious.

Puzzled? Perhaps we should explain the concept. In the hustle and bustle of New York City during jolly holiday season, of all places, a virus has broken out and rendered its victims as violent Infected that are out of their mind. Lucky for the fate of the world, rookie Officer Stevens has turned out to be immune to the outbreak, and as a solution to the crisis, the strange Dr. Schaeffer has decided that Stevens' blood is key to destroying the Infected. Using an arsenal of weapons, such as dual guns, a specially-crafted "viral gun" with blood-filled shells and even mass air strikes and fire trails, players will have to paint the streets of New York in blood to put a stop to the virus-infected Infected.

Infected is an original game custom designed to take full advantage of the power of the PSP system,” explained Bob Stevenson, CEO of Planet Moon Studios. “We look forward to working with Majesco to provide handheld gamers with an entirely new game play experience that’s full of new ideas and happens to be one hell of a good time.”

As for the delightfully malicious multiplayer, Infected has players creating their own character or avatar, and after winning in combat (with modes including Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch), allows them to "infect" their opponents PSPs and rack up the points. Victory has a bit of strategy to it itself, as players can spread their avatar from one PlayStation Portable to the next if they play their cards right.

Infected will certainly be ‘socially communicable’ in that victorious players can wirelessly invade their opponents PSP systems and spread their unique virus literally around the world,” suggested Ken Gold, vice president of Marketing for Majesco. “This type of compelling game play is further enhanced by allowing players to check their ranking against other players, as well as see just how far their virus has spread.”

Adding to an impressive set of launch titles as it is, Infected will spread to stores on March along with Majesco's previously announced Advent Shadow. Infected is the first of three PSP games to emerge from an exclusive deal between the publisher and Planet Moon Studios - we'll keep you updated once the other two are announced.
