Go Get Yer Gunpey

The third PSP game from Q Entertainment to hit in a single week. Craziness, we know.

Portable puzzle fans, you have really got it made this week. Besides Buena Vista Games’ offering of a pair of point-racking, trance-inducing titles (ok, so Every Extend Extra is technically a shooter, but just go with it) just a few days ago, you folks are getting yet another helping of Q Entertainment’s handiwork with Gunpey. It’s under the Namco Bandai Games publishing label and we couldn’t even tell you why, and it’s not stopping a corporate higher-up at the company from cooking up a shameless plug!

"Gunpey is an infectious blend of enticing tunes and tantalizing gameplay set against the backdrop of highly stylized art," tempts Naruo Uchida, NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc.'s Senior Vice President. "Several modes of gameplay along with multiplayer wireless capability make Gunpey a great pick for the holiday season."

So how does a developer manage to crank out two handheld puzzlers without the risk of repeating themselves? Well, on top of the aforementioned publishing trickery, Gunpey (named after and conceived by the late, legendary Gunpei Yokoi) smacks far less of Tetris inspiration than Lumines II does, and instead challengers players to create a fluent steam of lines, connecting them (well, it) from one side of the screen to the other to score points. Completing these lines yield increasingly more complex possibilities until your mind explodes. Or, you know, you beat the level.

So there you have it, kids, a Q Entertainment threesome is adoring shelves as we speak and may very well turn you into a genuine addict for trippy games. Enjoy!
