From the team that brought you The Getaway, the gang warfare heats up in Gangs of London. And yes, that was a Smiths reference.

"Gangs of London is organized crime in the palm of your hands. Now you can control and give orders to your team of gangsters to orchestrate the most ruthless takeover of the London Underworld," said Daniel Navarro, Team Soho, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. "We are excited by so many facets including its accessibility, graphic novel gangster stories, and open game structure that enables a large variety of game modes. It's an intense depiction of London's criminal underworld with elements never seen before on a handheld system."
If the terms “organized crime” and “London Underworld” ring a bell, then you’ve won yourself a lollypop. But this is no coincidence, oh cognizant reader – Gangs of London is being tailored by the proud mommys and daddys of The Getaway series, Team Soho, and promises to be a PSP gamer’s on-way ticket to the free-roaming, gang-infested rendition of London.
The meat of the game lies in the Story Mode, where players will lead a gang of their choice through a series of close to 60 missions in order to make their make on the crime world while keeping an upper-hand over the competition. To actually provide some justification as to why you’re rampaging through the streets of London in a power-hungry frenzy, graphic novel-type narratives will play between missions and give a bit of insight on what’s driving these criminal masterminds in their quest for underworld omnipotence.
Turn-based strategy will also be getting a little bit grittier, thanks to a Gang Battle mode that will have players utilizing an interactive map to take over London patch at a time. Up to four players can get in on the action on a single system, we’re told.
For you reckless types, Free Roaming mode lets you take to the streets as you please, choosing from an assortment of characters, vehicles, weapons, time of day, and police levels. Still looking for a pastime in London? Heck, do as the locals do! Take snapshots of the city landmarks in Tourist Mode and be handsomely rewarded with game extras, or hit up the local pup and take part in a rousing game of darts, pool or skittles, to name a few.
In addition, the game sports an innovative Game Share mode that generates a level specific to each PSP unit. Everything from mission objectives to weaponry will vary, making for some seriously cool game swaps with friends.
Be sure to pick out your most intimidating gang outfit and perfect those British accents, as Gangs of London will wage war later this year. ‘Bout time you had a look-see at those first screenshots, eh chaps?
