For some, it seems like it was only yesterday when they first got their hands on a Final Fantasy title and experienced what the now world-famous Japanese RPG had to offer. On June 26th and July 24th, Square Enix will ship the first two installments of the now legendary series to retailers nationwide, updated and optimized for the PSP system. The releases will certainly be met with praise from the die hard fans, after all, it's Final Fantasy we're talking about here. But what about those who haven't had a chance to play the classics? They'll be glad to know that Square Enix isn't settling for an easy rehash cash-in, but that all-new content will be included. Honestly, we'd hope so -- the games are over 20 years old at this point. Among the improvements are graphical revisions, character art, additional dungeons, a 16:9 aspect ratio, and a new camera view.

Although the series introduced features to the genre such as a character job system that may seem paltry from a modern perspective, they were revolutionary at the time, laying the foundation for much more complex and involving gameplay as the industry matured. The executive producer in charge of bringing Final Fantasy I and II to the PSP, Shinji Hashimoto, is acutely aware of this fact. "So much has changed within the video game industry since the first console was launched, and FINAL FANTASY has always pushed the envelope, creating the most advanced graphics and immersive storylines possible."

Gamers who want to relive their gaming past (or see what all of the fuss was about) can pick up a copy of each release for $29.99.
