Sure, licensed games suck, but it doesn't really matter. They'll sell because they bear the same name as the TV show/animated movie/CG flick that little Jimmy won't shut up about because his Happy Meal came with a toy from the show/movie/flick and now he wants to play as those characters and his friends have the game and why can't he and the only way to give the parents a precious few hours of silence is to buy the game -- what's it rated, oh E perfect -- so give them a copy now.

Except the Family Guy isn't for kids. Hell it's actually rated M, making it even more mature (or, uh, immature) than the TV show. It also meant that the developers, High Voltage Software, could do more or less anything they wanted. So they, along with publisher 2K Games, picked up the voice talent from the show, hired the writers from the show, and set about whipping up a digital version of Quahog, Rhode Island and an endless series of flashbacks and jump cuts.

"Family Guy is one of the most popular and outrageously hilarious shows on television,” mused Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “We are excited to bring that comedic experience to video games. By working with the TV show's creative team, we've given fans of the show a way to experience Family Guy on a whole new level."

The idea of splitting things up between a beat-em-up (Peter's sections), a stealth game (Brian's) and a puzzle game (Stewie's) amidst a storyline that links a hunt for Mr. Belvedere, a run from the law after being accused of impregnating a dog, and a race against time to stop a sperm brother (guess which ones are which?) certainly sounds complicated enough to be a Family Guy episode, but we'll see what happens when it's stretched out to be about 20 times as long as your typical TV show. Luckily, if you can't wait to find out what we think, you can pick up the game in either PlayStation 2 or PlayStation Portable flavors. And now you know.
