EA Brings the Kickin’ Tunes
Hmm, kicking… soccer… yes, I do believe we’re referring to the FIFA Street 2 soundtrack.
Published: February 23, 2006
Now this certainly feels familiar. While EA’s most recent pugilist, Fight Night Round 3, digressing from the company’s norm in its hip-hop heavy soundtrack with a scanty dozen tracks, the massive song line-ups typical of the industry giant seem to be back in fashion. We’re looking at you, FIFA Street 2, and your internationally flavored in-game soundtrack, teeming with 47 tunes courtesy of drum & bass, underground hip hop, rock and Latin artists ‘round the globe.
Catering to a little word we like to call “variety,” the sound stage is anything but continent-specific, picking up talent from Brazil (with Curumin), Sweden (say hello to Swing Fly) to even the Canadian boys up north (that’d be Bran Van 3000). A fortunate few are even launching their songs through the game, namely Roni Size with “Bite the Bullet,” "Hold Your Colour REMIX" by Pendulum, "Suzie" by Boy Kill Boy, "Flo Fashion" by Sway, "Tru Skool" by Coldcut featuring Roots Manuva and "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah,” courtesy of The Flaming Lips (hey, an artist we’ve actually heard of!)
Players will be able to pick their aural poison by tuning into any of the three in-game radio stations. LIVE FM, with host DJ Zanr Lowe, brings the hip hop and rock, the “Godfather of drum & bass,” DJ Grooverider, dishes out his specialty on Rider Radio, and celebrated Latin radio host and artist DJ Marky spices things up with Radio Bongo. If genre specificity isn’t your thing, though, why don’t you just create your own radio station, crafting a custom playlist from the in-game tunes and even throwing one of seven international DJs on the mic. We dare you.
"We have yet again broken new ground with the soundtrack in FIFA Street 2," gloated Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Music Marketing at EA. "These 47 songs represent the hottest emerging artists around the globe. Whether you're playing FIFA Street in Japan, Mexico, Germany or the US, there's something here for everyone."
