Exit Debuts

Oxymoronic headlines? What’s the world coming to?! Heck if we know, but we can tell you that Ubisoft is bringing three of Tatio’s PSP titles stateside.

It’s a shame, really. Countless numbers of stellar game that make their mark in the East never have the luxury of getting a North American release. Luckily, U.S. publishers seem to be doing their homework as of late to ensure we American gamers get at least of taste of what’s all the rage in Japan. Why, who’ve thought a bizarre title that revolves around rolling up the entire world would be a hit amongst a Western crowd? It’s all about risk taking, folks.

Ubisoft seems to be well aware of the gamble and is taking its chances, with an announcement today that an exclusive licensing agreement with Taito Corporation of Japan will have three of their titles on North American and European shelves in 2006. The first of the batch is a daring (we’ll explain later) puzzle action title for the PSP, simply by the name of Exit.

"Exit's unique graphics and fluid style make this yet another innovative puzzle game in Ubisoft's arsenal," assures Jay Cohen, vice president of publishing at Ubisoft. "Ubisoft is excited to be bringing three of the industry's most innovative titles to gamers this year."

So what’s all this risky business we speak of? Enter the world of Mr. ESC, a professional escapologist (yep, it’s in the dictionary) whose death-defying feats of saving those in despair is all in a day’s work. He’ll (well, you will) have to traverse disaster-ridden buildings, hospitals and subways to save victims from the aftermath of a roaring firing, calamitous earthquake, or other natural disasters. Rescued people can even be recruited to assist in moving obstacles or saving other victims. Escapology is contagious, we’re told.

Expect plenty of running, jump and rope/ledge/ladder climbing (because yes, you’ll be doing a lot of it) once February rolls around, as Exit promises to deliver original gameplay with stylish graphics to boot. Stick around for the updates.
