Dynasty Warriors Double-Up
One of the PSP's launch titles is getting a proper sequel.

The Dynasty Warriors isn't at first glance the kind of game you imagine playing on a handheld. Granted, it has the whole "jump in at any time and slash the crap out of stuff" aspect, but it also happens to take place on massive battlefields with fights that can take upwards of an hour. Luckily, the PSP has two distinct advantages here: the fact that you can suspend the game at any time and developers that are well aware of this whole 10-15 minute session concept.
For the first PSP Dynasty Warriors game, KOEI more or less addressed this, breaking up the battles into smaller chunks, though it wasn't until Samurai Warriors that things started to feel properly PSP-centric. Many complaints about DW still remain; slowdown, excess fog, cluttered menus, stripped-down modes, and we're not quite sure how or if these have been handled, but KOEI is promising one thing: there's going to be more. More characters, more stages and more RPG-style leveling up.
Specifically, they're talking about having up to 300 officers to join in the fight (yes, that's 3 times as much as the last game), 50 stages, 31 maps and up to 8 horses and elephants that can be leveled up just like the game's suite of 48 DW mainstay characters. The storylines for each (something the first game lacked completely) will actually branch depending on what character is kicking ass through the Three Kingdoms, and the console version's Musou, Free and new Multiplayer (with four-player wireless, woo hoo! But just Ad Hoc, booo!) Modes to extend things.
We'll have more on the game as we get closer to the Fall release date here in the States, but for now, be sure to take a peek at the screens to your left and warm up them button mashing thumbs.
