That's the funk guitar music you should hear in your head as you read about Driver '76 streeting.

It's still a bit of a mystery to us why anyone would want to take on the pain and shame associated with the Driver franchise. Maybe it's just that the first game was so damn good (and it was -- oh how it was), or maybe it's developer Reflections' pedigree (they were the folks behind the Demolition Derby games). Whatever the reason, Ubisoft saw fit to lift the burden from Atari a while back, and they've decided to take the basic world of 1970s New York seen in Driver: Parallel Lines drop back two years, and let PSP owners tear around in 27 completely new levels.

Well, if they wanted to get rid of the taint, that's not a bad way to do it, we suppose. It also helps that Driver '76 isn't being developed completely by Reflections. Instead, PSP development darlings Sumo Digital will be handling the duties (though for obvious reasons the Reflections folks have some input -- they aren't entirely out of the picture).

For the full deets on what the game will entail, be sure to check out our original story and when the game plops onto our desk, we'll make sure we throw a little reviews action atcha. In the mean time, the game should be in stores by this time tomorrow, if not sooner, should you need to get your game on pre-review. Just don't say we didn't warn ya...
