Death Dealt to Stores
DJ and crew are PSP bound. Again.

The first Death Jr. had the honor of being the first announced PSP project. It was to support NURBS and push the processing power of the system, showcasing what the PSP offered that other portables couldn't. But it's wasn't a launch title, and by the time the game finally came out, a combination of poor control and some more shining examples of PSP programming prowess meant the game was politely acknowledged for having some potential, but largely ignored because of the gameplay.
"Ignored" is probably a bad word. The game clearly did well enough to warrant a sequel, as we're staring at Death Jr. 2: Root of Evil's release today. Best of all, we've played the game and -- gasp -- actually enjoyed it (which is in stark contrast to what we thought of the first one). Tons of effort has gone into fixing up the camera issues, improving the controls and bumping up the performance of the game significantly. The result is a game that looks like a proper sequel.
And hey, it's out. The game can be picked up starting tomorrow (today if you've got a street date-breaking game store near you), and if you can rope a buddy into playing along, the two of you can rock Wi-Fi co-op gameplay as both the son of the Grim Reaper and his little sweetheart. Along the way, you'll be able to wield such imaginative gems as the C4 hamsters, shiny sparklies, T.P. thrower and freeze gun. Both DJ and Pandora have different moves and actually behave like more than just a palette swap. Of course, both characters still offer the same familiar blend of platforming and shooting that made the first game tolerable, but now they're in a world that's actually fun to play around in! Hooray!
You can explore said world and its acid-doused waffles and robotic llamas now. We'll report back with a final review in a few days.
