Dead to Rights Guns For PSP

Namco's cop-and-dog duo is going portable. First screens and details inside.

Namco tossed us the first bits of info on Dead to Rights: Reckoning, the PSP entry into the very same franchise that's getting a sequel on consoles this week. It appears that the storyline will more or less mirror the events of Dead to Rights II, with Jack and his pup Shadow investigating the disappearance of a mob squealer that takes them deep into the criminal underworld.

The difference here, of course, is that all PSP players will have a slightly wider view of the action with the PSP's 16:9 screen instead of only those lucky enough to own high-end TVs for the console version. In fact, according to the scant details in the info we go today, Namco seems to by plying the increased screen real estate towards a more immersive experience, though we're not quite sure what "an advanced camera system" actually entails.

Lest you think this is still a single-player only experience, the developers are also tossing in a wireless multiplayer feature that will allow multiple PSP owners to duke it out between themselves in deathmatch, though we can't help but hope that someone on the dev team suggests a little wireless or online co-op for some real fun. Of course, that would probably require that the level designs get shuffled around a bit, so this is probably just wishful thinking on our part.

"Dead to Rights: Reckoning accurately translates the adrenaline-soaked combat of [the] best-selling action series, and adds several new features that take advantage of the PSP hardware," explains Pierre Roux, Reckoning's Executive Producer. "The game's unique ranged and melee fighting engine and stylish disarms are sure to make it one of the most action-packed games on the PSP when it is released this May."

We'll get more extensive hands-on time with the game during E3 next month.
