As details of the North American launch of the PlayStation Portable (it's only two months away, folks!) have continued to trickle in, one of many questions has laid in our minds despite the impressive software titles known thus far: where the heck are the fighting games?! Ah, but leave it to Capcom to deliver, as the company announced today Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower, the latest installment in the renowned fighting franchise that's expected to hit with the PSP's launch in the states.
“Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower is the first handheld fighting game to actually exceed its arcade and home console predecessors,” said Todd Thorson, director of marketing Capcom Entertainment. “With all new game modes to the franchise and wireless battles, Darkstalkers Chronicle on the PSP is a must have.”
The cast of monster hunters from previous installments have all reunited in The Chaos Tower[/url], with a line-up of 18 that includes Demitri Maximoff, Jonathan Talbain, Victor von Gerdenheim, Lord Raptor, Anakaris, Rikuo, Sasquatch, Felicia, Bishamon, Morrigan Aenslaed 'n more. To have this characters brawling, of course, Darkstalkers Chronicle offers five modes of gameplay for players to hone their fighting skills in. Arcade has you working up the ladder against several CPU opponents, Training is the place to practice those swift moves, Network allows for Versus and Limit Battle (fighting with handicaps, basically) over wireless LAN, the survival-style Tower has players guiding a group of three up a tower through a multi-path tourney against enemies galore, and the neat Chronicle is where the unlockables are it.
In terms of visual goodness, [game=]Darkstalkers Chronicle offers both normal and wide resolutions, where Darkstalkers wallpaper fills in the screen borders in normal view, while 16:9 widescreen offers nifty zoom-ins and a crisp look at everything.
So when does the stalking begin, you ask? Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower hits with the North American launch of the PSP this March. Keep it here for more!
