[Shipping Out] October 26th

This week's releases are all screwy, and so is our weekly update.

Welcome to Shipping Out, our weekly notice of all them thar games that ship from publishers to retailers in preparation for their street date a day later. In many cases, these games won't be on store shelves until tomorrow, but in the interest of getting the word out, letting the PR departments have their fancy quotes and saving us sanity as the weekly releases pile up, we're going to be consolidating everything down into one handy little news story at the end of the day, along with this description. Neat, eh? And lazy!

It's the TPS way.

[PlayStation 2]
[Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock]
Oh Guitar Hero, you may have a new developer and your old one might be doing some zany stuff with Rock Band, but we still love ya, baby. Boss battles, a deeper 2-player game and tons of songs are all here, and all on the PS2. Of course, if you want online, you'll have to grab the PS3 version...

(Just a note, though, the game doesn't officially go on sale until this Sunday, the 28th, so don't go rushing out to stores just yet.)

[SpongeBob SquarePants: Atlantis SquarePantis]
Honestly, we don't know what the hell this one's about. THQ is usually pretty good about kicking over preview builds of stuff, but we've seen hide nor hair of SpongeBob's latest outing. But, uh, hey, it apparently involves him looking for the world's oldest bubble, just like the TV special of the same name so there's... uh, that.

[PlayStation Portable]
[Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles
Some days, you're just thankful to be alive. This is one of those days because this is the day when we all get Castlevania X: Rondo of Blood in both original 2D and updated 3D flavors, plus the whole of the 2D masterpiece Symphony of the Night (it's the sequel, y'know) all on one UMD. All you need to know about the game is that you must by it or burn in hell forever.

"We took full advantage of the PSP system, adding more content in a portable Castlevania than ever before," said Anthony Crouts, Vice President of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "With the Dracula X Chronicles, not only does the package include two of the most popular entries in the Castlevania series to date, but it also includes a complete remake of a title that was previously only available in Japan. This massive collection of old and new Castlevania content is a great value for PSP gamers and fans of the series alike."

[PlayStation 3]
[Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock]
Awww yeah, here's where it all comes together. The wireless controllers, and the gameplay of the PS2 version, plus online play and downloadable content down the road, all in glorious HD. Seriously, how can you not be excited about this stuff? Remember, though, you can't actually get it until Sunday; it's just shipping today.

“Where there is music this holiday season, there is Guitar Hero, and we’re excited to deliver Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock as the ultimate guitar-bending experience for our fans,” screamed an excited Dusty Welch, head of publishing for Activision/RedOctane. “With an amazing set list, added gameplay features, online functionality, and new wireless guitars, aspiring rock stars are going to shred harder than ever before.”

[Ratatouille]
Sure, we've seen late releases of games before, but never games that looked fairly close to finished when we first saw them. Granted, the Gamers' Day build of THQ's take on Pixar's latest CG movie had a ways to go, but it didn't seem that far behind the other versions, which all shipped like six months ago, but hey, if you own a PS3 by now, you're used to seeing delayed games, right?

[The Eye of Judgment]
Woo hoo, the tech demo has arrived. Now you can use collectible cards to do battle with your friends and enemies online or in person. Along with the game, the stand-alone PlayStation Eye is also shipping out and will cost you about $40. No matter which way you actually get the camera, you should have the EyeCreate Software chilling on the PlayStation Store as soon as you get home. Handy!
