BattleZone Rolls Out
Maybe that should have been "hovers out"...

Since it was [pspnews=]first announced back in May[/game, we haven't really heard much out of developer Paradigm Entertainment or publisher Atari about BattleZone, the PSP update of the classic shooter. Normally, this means the game is rather crappy, but we have a little faith in Paradigm as a developer -- they managed to update Spy Hunter, after all. Of course, to hear Atari tell it, the game is going to rock.
"BattleZone for the PSP system is a modern day version of the immensely-popular classic property," droned Stephen Baer, Senior Product Manager at Atari. "BattleZone is a fast-paced and addictive game that capitalizes on all the PSP system offers. Just as the original set the standard for combat action in the arcades, BattleZone for the PSP system is armed to meet today's generation of gamers anywhere they go."
Hmm, so portable updated hovertanks blowing the crap out of each other? Good start, but what else has been added since the original announcement? Apparently not much; the game still tosses eight customizable tanks, a handful of weapons, downloads from the game's web site, and online level builder, and of course Wi-Fi multiplayer modes (six of 'em in all; CTF, Deathmatch, Team DM, Fox and Hound, Hotzone, and Knockout).
And hey, the game is out now, so should waves of nostalgia come crashing over you so fast you can't help but rush out to buy the game before we get a chance to review it, you certainly can. Just don't say we didn't warn you.
