Namco has finally finished their first PSP Ace Combat game.

As staunch supporters of the PlayStation brand since its inception, it was really only a matter of time before Namco announced that they were working on a PSP version of the venerable Ace Combat series. Most thought, however, that the game would be something of a "greatest hits" or stripped down port of one of the earlier games as is all too common these days on the PSP.

Instead, we're getting an actual honest-to-goodness, full-on Ace Combat game. It's not exactly cannon (rather, it's a new setting for the series), but it is something we're looking forward to experiencing. Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception, they're calling it, and it promises to add in some decidedly PSP-centric changes to the familiar formula.

Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception is set in an entirely new world and includes original tunable aircraft and Ad-Hoc multiplayer. These exciting additions will guarantee a unique portable aerial combat experience for Ace Combat fans,” Yoshi Niki, Product Group Director at Namco Bandai Games America, proudly posited.

So let's see here. The series' classically awesome visuals (and, we're hoping, menu design), a new setting, customizable (sorry, tunable) planes, a new storyline and wireless multiplayer? Sure, that sounds like enough reason to fork over $40, and given that the game has officially gone gold on the way to its October 24th ship date. We're going to fork the s out of that game. Just a few more weeks now...
