It’s a Footie Frenzy!

As if you didn’t have enough soccer titles to chew up your time this year, EA has 2006 FIFA World Cup in the works.

Seriously, EA, what’s with all the freakin’ soccer games? FIFA Soccer 06 is barely six months old and FIFA Street 2 has barely had a chance to cozy up on shelves, but noooo, the public is apparently demanding MOOOOOOORE DU—uh, footie, and that’s just what they’re getting.

Meet your new best friend: 2006 FIFA World Cup, the sole licensed game of world’s largest sporting event that’s totally not the Olympics. Seriously.

“The FIFA World Cup will be the single most watched sporting event by a worldwide television audience, bringing together soccer fans from around the world,” affirms Joe Nickolls, lead producer of the game. “Our game, 2006 FIFA World Cup celebrates this passion by capturing all of the national rivalries in-game, enabling fans to play their heroes and be a part of 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany.”

For soccer diehards who won’t be on-spot in Deutschland, bringing with them a swelling sense of pride for the homeland and the means to go berserk at the drop of a red flag, 2006 FIFA World Cup should make for a reasonable surrogate. The game is jam-packed with more international flavor than you can shake a national flag at, including 127 national teams, nearly 100 of the sport’s finest players and 12 official stadiums pulled right outta the tournament itself.

2006 FIFA also boasts a fresh batch of new gameplay modes, notably a Global Challenge that will have players recreating classic World Cup matches in no time. Soccer junkies can get in on eight-way multiplayer matches, and if you ask us, they may be just the right place to start showing off some of those tasty unlockables, like the exclusive apparel or legendary players we know you’ve been chalking up.

The kick-off begins in April, giving footie fans nearly a three month start on the World Cup action that takes Germany by storm in June. Anticipation begins… now.
